It's been a while since WSC! has posted a good kick week, or any thing for that matter haha. This week I will be featuring some of the hottest shoe trends from the hottest retailers from NY to LA to right here in RVA for fall 2010 starting with men.
If anyone remembers, last Kick Week we featured a lot of sporty trends for spring so I figured we would go the more sophisticated route for Fall.
I find some of the most amazing things from Top Shop NYC who have some of the most trendy and forward looks for men. Even though Top Shop is not well known in the mainstream I still consider it corporate retail but not far under the independent boutiques and designers. (in other words they're pretty rad in my book)
Let's start with a boot.
Europe has been on a men's boot kick for years. There has never really been a market for sophisticated boots in the US until recently. So here are a couple things to think about when putting together you're new fall wardrobe.
Boots for men are not easy to come by and when you finally find that perfect pair they cost a bagillion dollars. Not TUHDAY!
Here we have the "Westland" black vintage look Hudson boot from TopMan.com. 100% Leather. for under 200 bucks. HELLO! Why aren't you buying these like NOW?!
I know these are a little last year style so I will quickly explain myself. Palladium Boots are one of my favorite styles of boots for men because A: They are functional and B: They look damn sexy with a slim fit twill and a fitted military jacket. PERFECT FOR FALL. DUH! I mean, these shoes are worn by the french military HELLO you can't get hotter than that. Another great thing about these fashionably functional kicks is that you don't have to take the China Town bus to snag a pair. Just check out your local Urban Outfitters or Urbanoutfitters.com. And for 70 bucks you really don't have any excuse.
I hope you enjoyed the first fall 2010 kick week entry. Feel free to email me at drewb@wesewcool.com for any questions or comments or just to say hey! : )

REVIEW WEEK! Vegan Friendly, Carnivore Approved... Strange Matter
Strange Matter keeps the originality of the Nancy Raygun, the fixer-ups from Bagel Czar, and the glittering wonderfulness that is, well, Strange Matter.
One of the things I LOVE about Richmond is you'll NEVER go hungry. EVER! There are about 2200 diverse restaurant choices in Richmond (according to Yahoo! travel, haha). But there are only a few who stand out above the rest. Like the little indie restaurants in The Fan that are so full of character you'd think you were in another country. Literally.
I can't help but not say something about an amazing, much needed breathe of fresh air by the name of Strange Matter. Located at 929 West Grace St., formerly Bagel Czar and The Nancy Raygun before that, Strange Matter is giving the 929 Grace St. curse a run-around. With an original, artistic menu that is just as fun as it is appetizing. With all VEGAN options, where can you go wrong?... in Richmond. But before you hesitate on the 'Vegan' thing please let me enlighten you. I am not Vegan, nor Vegetarian, but whenever I go into a new, locally owned and operated restaurant that is exploding with character I go in with an open mind and an open heart. I can't believe I didn't give it a try sooner because, quite frankly, the entire experience was awesome.
The murals on the walls, The original Nancy Raygun Stage and bar, everything where it's meant to be and so much more. Screw you, Dave and Buster's, Strange Matter has a full arcade, tastefully placed near the rear of the bar area with an amazing selection of retro arcade games. No more whacking moles or pounding beavers.
Oh! and the food! I, myself, ordered the Vegan BBQ sliders. Four Words. HEAVEN-IN-MY-MOUTH. My room mate ordered the Vegetable Sub. Made with fresh ingredients, the food is portioned just right and priced to perfection. The service was perfect. No BS real people run this place and I wouldn't have it any other way.
As long as I'm in Richmond, locally owned restaurants are my number one choice if I want an amazing meal and Strange Matter hits all the right spots.

Ooh La La Records
So I Recently traveled to Brooklyn, NY to visit some friends. One of my good friends from school introduced me to one of her friends who is a music producer and co-owner(?) of a record label. This guy seemed really passionate about his work and I (being the crazed music whore that I am) was really excited to meet someone with their own indie record label. So I proceeded to drunkenly ask him a million questions. None of which I remember BUT! He gave me his card. I just recently looked up the label to find out they've released their first single from a band by the name of 1,2,3. I immediately listened to the single and thought it was pretty good so i thought I'd share. : )
So check out the Ooh La La Records site and 1,2,3's single Confetti now available on itunes.

Maluca!
This Dominican beauty made her official debut in Aug. 2009 on Diplo's label Mad Decent. I like to call this particular genre ElectroFlemenco though itunes categorizes it as 'Dance'. Come on iTunes El Tigeraso is a little more powerful than just another 'dance' track. I like to think of Maluca as the latino Kid Sister with a little more edge.
You can buy the El Tigeraso EP on iTunes with remixes by Feadz, Gant Man, Nguzunguzu, and Sticky K.
Check the vid
and last but definitely not least...
The Party Squad's Hollertronix #10
Now I don't know if you have ever heard the original, actual Hollertronix Mixtape but it's quite possibly the most amazing work of art Diplo (and Low B) has ever created (collectively with other DJs and Artists of course)other than his first work of Art 'Florida'. Hollertronix is a music collective created by Diplo and Low B which gradually turned into what is now MAD DECENT. With Low B supposedly no longer in the mix, Hollertronix is making a come back with an EP with The Partysquad of the Netherlands.
The Partysquad, a dutch DJ duo, has brought back some elements from the original Hollertronix collaborations to their Hollertronix #10 EP, also on the Mad Decent Label, but using their personal flare making this EP at the top of it's game for Music to come within the next few years.
I officially trust Diplo with everything he does, he continues to amaze me and continues to reach further than the mainstream music industry could ever possibly reach. I've enjoyed every artist he has ever worked with/discovered and every thing he has ever produced, mixed, etc. This EP is a perfect example of how one DJ is changing the face of music along side two amazing DJs from the Netherlands. If you know what good music is, you will not be disappointed with Hollertronix #10.
The Partysquad's Hollertronix #10 EP is available on iTunes.
(PS I'm not stupid. People DL free music all the time (blogs, limewire, torrents, etc) but three labels I always support and buy their music are MAD DECENT, Downtown Rec., and Fools Gold Rec. Please, if not any other artists or labels, support all of these amazing artists as I do.)
